In America The early performances of Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the prodigy child category. For a child with Irish heritage surrounded by gifted parents and family members, those were not innate traits. Maureen joined this wonderful sanctuary within Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. The mother of Maureen, Marguerita Lulburn FitzSimons was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen was a star athlete and was a lover of rough play. Her passion was coupled with a natural talent for performance. This is why she won the majority of the Feis Awards for acting and dramatic performances within her own country. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14 as she continued to pursue her dream of opera as well as classical theatre and singing.
